The Biden administration has announced training opportunities for federal hiring managers and HR officials on the recent joint OPM-OMB memo on “improving the federal hiring experience” for them as well as for job applicants.
A posting on performance.gov highlights features of the guidance including:
* an emphasis on pooled hiring, which “aids managers by providing a broader pool of qualified candidates, reducing the time and effort required to fill positions”;
* using plain language in job postings which means managers will “spend less time determining if someone is qualified, making it easier to match the right candidates to the right positions”; and
* creating additional tools for managers and HR officials, which will “enable them to more efficiently complete routine tasks and expedite administrative elements of the hiring process.”
The posting announced a series of free online events running from September 18 through October 16, some geared only to managers and other geared only to HR officials, on topics such as candidate assessments and finding the right talent.
OPM and OMB further will launch a data working group to explore expanded approaches to evidence-based hiring metrics and conduct research on the applicant and hiring manager experience across the talent acquisition process, it says.
“Agencies will be asked to track and share their progress on improving the hiring experience. OPM will monitor progress using key hiring experience metrics,” it adds.
