TSA to Allow Orlando Airport to Use Private Screeners

TSA has announced it will allow Orlando Sanford International Airport to opt-out of using TSA screeners to check passengers and baggage, with federal supervision.

According to the office of Rep. John Mica, R-Fla., Orlando Sanford is considering either using a private screening service contracted by TSA, or competing for the contract itself and retaining a private contractor to assist in the new screening model.

Rep. Mica, the chair of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, worked to get language into the FAA authorization bill to require TSA to accept applications from airports to opt-out of exclusive use of federal screeners.
