Unclear if Contractor-Support Has Become Part of Pre-Deployment Training

Military personnel continue to receive limited or no training on the use of contractors as part of their pre-deployment training or professional military education, the report said.

GAO said that while DoD agreed with similar findings in earlier reports and said it would improve training, it could not identify a standard to ensure information about contractor support is incorporated in pre-deployment training.

DoD still lacks adequate contractor oversight personnel at deployed locations, making it difficult to ensure contractors are meeting contract requirements efficiently and effectively, the report said.

Further, it said that while a lack of adequate contract oversight personnel is a DoD-wide problem, lacking adequate personnel in more demanding contracting environments in deployed locations presents its own set of difficulties.
