White House Pledges to Continue Removing ‘Legislative Restrictions’ to e-Gov Consolidations, Competitions

According to the White House’s 2006 budget proposal,

“the administration will continue to work with the

Congress to remove legislative restrictions on

E-Government,” as well as those “on competitive sourcing

so that all federal agencies have full use of this

important management tool.”

It said the recently completed consolidation of the federal

payroll system could save more than $1 billion over 10

years and wants to carry out further “consolidation

opportunities in other areas, such as financial management,

grants management, and human resources management.”

The budget proposal said agencies would continue to

compete with each other and contractors to become shared

service providers and provide specific services across

the government, “to reduce the need for individual

agencies to invest in these administrative systems

individually.”
