The Air Force is investigating ways it might use Google Glass on the battlefield.
It said researchers at the 711th Human Performance Wing at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, are testing Google Glass as part of a wider program to develop, build and investigate advanced wearable technologies.
Google Glass runs the Android OS and can leverage many smartphone capabilities. A user can activate the screen, positioned just above the right eye, by swiping the frame or by voice control. Blinking, swiping and voice commands allow the user to access functionality such as taking a picture, opening a file and so on.
According to, Andres Calvo, a software developer and civilian contractor with the 711th HPW, Google Glass could – for example – be used to run an app allowing pararescue first responders to monitor vital stats on several patients while still being able to attend to a patient or man a weapon.
