DHS Awards $30 Million Contact to Help Share US-VISIT Data

DHS has awarded a nine-month, $30 million contract to Accenture Federal Services to bolster the department’s data sharing capability and secure web services for the Office of Biometric Identity Management in order to facilitate biometric data sharing among the US, UK, New Zealand, Canada and Australia.

The Office of Biometric Identity Management – formerly the US-VISIT program – manages biometric (mainly fingerprints) and biographic identity management systems that help federal, state and local officials determine if travelers can legally enter or remain in the US, and Accenture says work under the contract will reduce the time, cost and personnel required to support data sharing.

Accenture said that upgrades under the contract also would enable the sharing of biometric information in real time with the Department of Justice and DoD.
