DHS Orders 7,000 Remote Desktop Access Devices

DHS has placed and order for 7,000 secure remote desktop access devices from Route1 under the FirstSource II contract vehicle.

According to Route1, a security and identity management company headquartered in Toronto, Canada, its MobiKEY technology "integrates multi-factor authentication and identity management in a mobile computing environment."

The company said in a press release that DHS will be replacing older MobiKEY "classic" devices with newer MobiKEY Fusion devices, and Route1 plans to ship them through February under the $700,000 order.

The device integrates with government-issued identity cards, such as the DHS PIV card – so to gain access to a computer remotely, users would need to physically possess the MobiKEY device, a PIV card, and have computer and network access credentials.
