Says Intelligence Community Could be Model for Breaking IT Silos

PPS offered up the Intelligence Community as an example for the kind of enterprise approach to IT that it is advocating.

For example, it said the 17 IC agencies are seeking a way to operate a single, secure cloud with the CIA and NSA as central service providers. The National Geospatial—Intelligence Agency and the Defense Intelligence Agency would provide desktop services while NSA would manage computing applications that all 17 agencies would access.

This could cut back on duplicate acquisition, operations and maintenance costs, PPS said, noting that the IC and six cabinet departments have already deployed a common, classified email system. It said it is “imperative” for this approach to be more widely adopted for the most common IT services throughout the government.
