3.5 Percent Raise Endorsed

The DoD authorization bill also endorses a 3.5 percent raise next January for uniformed military personnel, up from the 3 percent that the White House recommended for both uniformed and civilian personnel. Civil service leaders of both parties have said they will push for the same amount for federal employees in the name of pay parity when the federal raise is taken up later in the year as part of the appropriations process. However, while the committee vote is a strong signal, it doesn’t guarantee that the military raise will be boosted to that amount, and it appears unlikely that the civilian employee raise would be set higher than the uniformed personnel raise.
