BoA has been sending out letters to affected cardholders stating that it will monitor those accounts for any “unusual activity,” that there is no suggestion that the tapes have been accessed or misused and that individuals will not be liable for any unauthorized use of the cards. However, employees have expressed greater concern about the potential for identity theft, since the tapes include data such as Social Security numbers, account numbers and addresses–than about unauthorized charges. The BoA letters also provide general information about securing financial information.
