Congress returns to work this week from its Memorial Day recess with only about three months of legislative working time planned for the remainder of the year, meaning that action on several federal employment related initiatives might have to be taken quickly if it is to occur at all this year. Congress expects to take off the week of Independence Day and also recess for most of August and tentatively adjourn for the elections in early October. During that time Congress will need to pass regular appropriations bills plus several other high-priority national agenda items.
