Disability, Postmasters Bills Cleared

The House has approved and sent to the President legislation (HR-978) designed to address a problem arising for some FERS employees who retire after periods of disability. The measure offsets reductions in Social Security benefits and government contributions to the Thrift Savings Plan by boosting the civil service portion of the FERS benefit by 1 percentage point for those who received disability compensation benefits for at least two months. Meanwhile, the House has joined the Senate in passing S-678, which allows postmaster organizations to participate directly in the planning and development of pay policies and schedules, fringe benefits and other programs relating to supervisory and other managerial employees.
