FLTCIP Eligibility Expanded

The recently signed Defense Department budget measure made certain additional groups, and their qualified relatives, eligible for the Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program. These include “deferred” annuitants-those who are separated from active federal employment and who are not currently eligible for an annuity but who will be eligible for one in the future, typically on reaching age 62. The other categories are “gray area” reservists-those retired but not yet receiving retired pay, which typically begins for them at age 60-and District of Columbia government employees who were first employed there before October 1, 1987.
