House Committee Overseeing Federal Employment Issues Organizes, Sets Leaders

The House Oversight and Accountability Committee has reorganized for the 2023-2024 Congress, with Rep. Pete Sessions, R-Texas, taking over as chair of what is now called the government operations and federal workforce subcommittee and Rep. Kweisi Mfume of Maryland as ranking Democrat.

As previously announced, Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., is chair of the full committee with Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland the ranking Democrat.

Other Republicans on the federal workforce subcommittee will be Reps. Gary Palmer, Ala.; Andy Biggs, Ariz.; Marjorie Taylor Greene, Ga.; Clay Higgins, La.; Byron Donalds, Fla.; Lauren Boebert, Colo.; Russell Fry, S.C.; Eric Burlison, Mo.; Chuck Edwards, N.C.; Tim Burchett, Tenn.; and William Timmons, S.C.

Other Democrats on the subcommittee will be Reps. Gerald Connolly, Va.; Eleanor Holmes Norton, D.C.; Maxwell Frost, Fla.; Greg Casar, Texas; Shontel Brown, Ohio; Melanie Stansbury, N.M.; Robert Garcia, Calif.; Becca Balint, Vt.; and Sheila Jackson Lee, Texas.

That subcommittee previously also had jurisdiction over agency IT-related matters, which have been shifted to a restructured subcommittee called cybersecurity, information technology and government innovation. Other subcommittees are: economic growth, energy policy, and regulatory affairs; health care and financial services; and national security, the border, and foreign affairs.
