Federal agencies expect to hire nearly 200,000 employees over the next two years as they take on new work and fill in vacancies being created by the retirement of the Baby Boom generation, but for the most part that hiring will take place in a relatively few career fields, according to a report by the Partnership for Public Service. It said that the government will have needs in almost every occupational field but that 80 percent of the hiring will be done in the areas of: security, protection, compliance and enforcement; medical and public health; accounting, budget and business; engineering and sciences; and program management/analysis and administration.
