An advisory committee important to the operation of the general schedule locality pay system could recommend next month changing some of the boundary lines in the system. The Federal Salary Council, made up of agency and union representatives and other compensation experts, has heard pleas from employees in several areas not currently in one of the 31 designated metropolitan zones to be included in those localities. This includes employees in certain areas of southern Florida asking to become part of the Miami locality and employees in the Connecticut River basin area seeking to be added to the Hartford, Conn., locality. The council expects to meet again October 7 and faces a November 30 deadline for making a recommendation to the President’s Pay Agent-consisting of the heads of the Labor Department, Office of Management and Budget and the Office of Personnel Management-which would have to approve any recommendation.
