Pay Raise Difference Spotlighted

The Senate is set to take up its version of the DoD bill (S-2507) as soon as this week, highlighting an area of difference between the two regarding the January 2007 military raise, which often in turn acts as the target figure for the federal employee raise. The House measure sets the uniformed personnel raise at 2.7 percent, while the Senate version accepts the 2.2 percent recommended by the White House. A Senate amendment to sweeten the military raise to 2.7 percent is possible, and even if the Senate sticks to the lower figure in the floor vote, it could adopt the House position in a conference that would follow. A move to support pay parity between civilian and military raises likely would be made on the Transportation-Treasury appropriations bill, which is still to come.
