The latest survey by the TSP of satisfaction with the program showed an increase over the 2023 levels, but still below levels before the 2022 operating system changeover whose troubled rollout frustrated and angered many account holders.
The overall satisfaction score in the 2022 survey — taken before the changeover — of 87 percent fell to 82 percent in 2023 as the negative impression left by the changeover lingered for many participants, then rose to 84 percent in the survey taken earlier this year. The level had been in the 87-89 percent range in the five surveys taken before last year.
The totals include both active and retired federal employees and military personnel. The satisfaction level by active federal employees under the FERS system (the survey does not cover employees under CSRS because of their small numbers in the workforce) rose to 89 percent from 85 percent over 2023-2024—what a presentation at the latest monthly meeting of the TSP governing board called a significant increase—but is still below the 90 percent of 2022.
Regarding particular aspects of the TSP, satisfaction with “access to my account” — a main issue arising with the changeover of operating systems — had dropped program-wide from 78 to 73 percent over 2022-2023, before rising to 77 percent this year. The highest-rated was security of the account, which held steady at 87 percent favorable, while the lowest-rated was ability to transfer money to other retirement plans, 55 percent, up from 52 percent.
The survey also showed gains in views of several other aspects of the TSP website, including tracking and managing investments, ease of finding information of interest, ease of navigating within the site, and ease of making/initiating account transactions.
A Walk Through the TSP Website: It has been two years since the TSP website had their big transition and upgrade. I thought it might be a good time to roam the TSP website and experience how it is working and see what improvements have been made, writes Abe Grungold.
