Tight Times Hit Charity Drive

Contributions to the annual Combined Federal Campaign declined again last year, OPM has said, to just below $210 million. OPM and others attributed the decline to the pressures of tight agency budgets and the then-ongoing three-year freeze on salary rates; giving could well fall further in 2014 since last year’s pledge drive kicked off during the partial government shutdown and on the heels of unpaid sequestration-induced furloughs. CFC giving peaked at $285 million in 2009 and has been declining since then; the 2012 level was $258 million.
