Vet Hiring Issue Arises

An audit by the Office of Personnel Management of Department of Housing and Urban Development has found instances of veterans not being hired for positions for which they were qualified. Although the number of hiring actions involved was low, five, and OPM blamed simple human error, the findings are likely to rekindle long-held suspicions among veterans that the government tries to find ways to avoid hiring advantages they get under veterans preference laws. OPM will audit all selections from HUD hiring certificates since the start of 2002 and HUD has worked out a plan to take corrective actions.
