A Pentagon office established last year to collect and publicly release information about UFOs—formally, “unidentified anomalous phenomena,” or UAPs—has said it will soon open a portal for federal, military and contractor personnel to report sightings.
The All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office said it “will be accepting reports from current or former U.S. Government employees, service members, or contractors with direct knowledge of U.S. Government programs or activities related to UAP dating back to 1945. These reports will be used to inform AARO’s congressionally directed Historical Record Report.”
“The DoD considers Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) as sources of anomalous detections in one or more domain (i.e., airborne, seaborne, spaceborne, and/or transmedium) that are not yet attributable to known actors and that demonstrate behaviors that are not readily understood by sensors or observers,” says a posting on www.aaro.mil.
“Anomalous detections include but are not limited to phenomena that demonstrate apparent capabilities or material that exceed known performance envelopes. A UAP may consist of one or more unidentified anomalous objects and may persist over an extended period of time,” it says.
The upcoming form will be “an initial point of contact with AARO; it is not intended for conveying potentially sensitive or classified information,” it says, adding: “By law, AARO may receive all UAP-related information, including any classified national security information involving military, intelligence, and intelligence-related activities, at all levels of classification regardless of any restrictive access controls, special access programs, or compartmented access programs.”
A reporting mechanism also will be made available for others to use, the posting said.
In an open hearing on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena before the Senate Armed Services Committee on April 19, Dr. Sean Kirkpatrick, director of the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), shared videos depicting an unidentified object with an apparent atmospheric wake or cavitation trailing it as it moved across the sensor’s field of view from left to right:
