Under a “Buy Direct” program, you can purchase Treasury securities with a toll-free phone call (800/943-6864) or at the Bureau of Public Debt Web site (www.publicdebt.treas.gov). Your investment will be deducted from a designated bank account so you don’t have to bother mailing in forms or checks.
Callers to the above phone number can’t buy Treasuries without an account but you can request the proper forms on the above Web site. Alternatively, you can request the account forms from any of 12 Federal Reserve Bank branches.
As another option, call the Bureau of Public Debt at 202-874-4000. Choose “5” from the voice mail options and ask a customer service rep to send you the paperwork.
