Topretirements.com recently graded all the states on these key issues: income tax, taxation of Social Security, taxation of pensions, property taxes, cost of living, health care insurance, and climate.
Here are the top states for retirees:
Tennessee – In this tax-friendly state seniors will find low property taxes. Income tax applies only to interest and dividends. Tennessee has the lowest cost of living in the US and it’s near the Sunbelt, for warm-weather vacations.
After Tennessee, four states tied for second place on the list:
Alabama – The per capita property tax is the second lowest in the US
Louisiana – Here you’ll find the lowest property taxes. The cost of living is low and the weather is warm.
Mississippi – Again, this state has low property taxes, and no tax on pensions. The weather is warm, too.
Texas – Property taxes are a bit higher but there is no income tax.
All of these states impose no income tax on Social Security benefits.
