Airmen and guardians can now sign up for classes related to job-mandated training, professional credentialing and licensing, through the service’s improved RedVector eLearning platform. It offers nearly 2,000 related courses. Service members who work in installation and mission support can get certifications from the National Fire Protection Association and Occupational Health and Safety Administration, or as stipulated by the Americans With Disabilities Act and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. Additional training in environment and energy, building and design codes, facilities, project management, contracting, engineering, architecture and HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) are also available.
“We’ve seen the success this platform had in a limited capacity, specifically with civil engineers,” said Robert Jackson, director of the Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center, which manages the program. “Now we’re making it available to the broader audience as we continue to pursue organizational excellence enterprise-wide.”
Authorization of the expanded RedVector program came following successful testing that began nine years ago at Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida. The latest iteration is another step on that continuum, coming from conclusions drawn during a required annual assessment of training needs. The service is realizing cost savings as a result, officials say. The average travel and cost per diem for each trainee is $4,700 per course. By offering the curriculums online, RedVector has saved the Air Force $6.4 million last year and an additional $1.9 million since April, program manager Felix Colon said.
“With tools like RedVactor, we are optimizing training opportunities to increase lethality, readiness and organizational knowledge across the total force,” Colon said.
