By: FEDweek StaffOPM has updated training modules for agency officials on veterans’ preference in hiring and for veterans and family members on navigating the federal hiring process.
The module for HR officials and hiring managers “provides essential guidance on the proper application of veteransʼ preference, special hiring authorities, and effective recruitment strategies that support veteran and military spouse employment efforts,” OPM said in a memo on www.opm.gov/chcoc/latest-memos.
“Federal agencies with their own Learning Management System will have the capability to download the Sharable Content Object Reference Model, enabling internal tracking of usage and completion of the training across different LMSs,” it says.
The module for veterans and military-connected families “offers valuable information on navigating USAJOBS, understanding veteransʼ preference, and leveraging noncompetitive hiring authorities. These resources are designed to provide military-connected individuals with the knowledge and tools needed to successfully pursue careers in the federal government.”
OPM encouraged agencies to use that module in their outreach and recruitment efforts.
Both are at www.OPM.gov/FedsHireVets.
