AF To Allow Personnel To Carry Weapons

Reacting to incidents in recent years involving shootings on military installations, the Air Force has implemented a plan to allow certain persons on bases to carry weapons. The Unit Marshal Program gives commanders authority to allow base security personnel to train airmen in weapon use. Airmen who complete the training would be allowed to carry M-9 pistols while on duty. The Security Forces Staff Arming program would allow more security forces personnel to carry their weapons while on duty. Any authority to carry side arms would be subject to base commanders’ approval.
