Air Force Announces E-Mail for Life

The Air Force has begun the first phase of a new e-mail system that will enhance its members’ ability to communicate worldwide. AF email, or eMail-for-Life, will provide a single, static e-mail address during the career of an Airman or Air Force civilian employee. Using the address, Airmen will be able to complete personnel actions in minutes through e-mail and the Internet. Mission support will be enhanced by empowering members to reliably connect and communicate with each other without encountering changed e-mail addresses. Personnel processes will be transformed and will empower members and databases to connect and communicate through e-business applications instead of local personnel flights. The Air Force will implement the system in phases, making it fully capable by 2007, according to officials. During the transition, Airmen will maintain their current local accounts, and may auto-forward e-mail from the AF eMail account.
