Organizers of AMVETS Operation DVD have received thousands of phone and e-mail inquiries from around the world since television personality Ed McMahon unveiled the first AMVETS Operation DVD library at the Palm Springs, Calif., Airport USO facility. "In about four days, our co-founder got more than 500 phone calls and a thousand e-mails from people all over the world asking how they can help and where to donate," said Robert Boots, a spokesman for AMVETS Operation DVD. AMVETS Operation DVD collects new and used DVDs to distribute to U.S. military personnel overseas. The organization selected DVDs because they are safer than some donations, they can resist harsh environmental conditions, and they are small enough to be shipped in quantity. AMVETS needs 1 million plus DVDS, and cash donations for packaging, say officials. For details, visit www.operationdvd.us.
