William Anderson, the Air Force’s assistant secretary for installations, environment, and logistics, has submitted his resignation and will likely leave on Aug. 15. Anderson’s departure comes on the heels of the June 5 firings of Air Force Secretary Michael W. Wynne and Chief of Staff T. Michael Moseley. Both men had fallen out of favor with Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates after negative publicity surrounding the handling of nuclear weapons. The Air Force Association, critical of the leadership change, had said Moseley and Wynne were sacked for their ardent support of new aircraft and synthetic fuels. Anderson, who held the job since 2005, served as Wynne’s top proponent of synthetic fuels.
