Arlington Management Changed

In the wake of two inspector general’s reports that revealed some cremated remains were handled improperly, lost, or placed in improperly marked sites at Arlington National Cemetery, Va., Army Secretary John McHugh has created a new Army National Cemeteries Program executive director position to improve oversight of Arlington and the other cemeteries the service manages. McHuth also established a new Army National Cemeteries Advisory Commission. Former senators Max Cleland of Georgia and Bob Dole of Kansas, both of whom were wounded in combat, will serve on the commission. One IG report said that Arlington was plagued by “dysfunctional management, a lack of established policy and procedures, and an overall unhealthy organizational climate.” McHugh’s response: “This all ends today.”
