The Army has suspended all temporary duty (TDY) funding for soldiers and civilians slated to take military education or leadership courses. Those persons who began TDY assignments to schools or educational facilities before the federal government shutdown began Oct. 1 should return to their permanent duty stations. Those who are already situated at military or civilian educational institutions on permanent-change-of-station (PCS) orders will be allowed to stay where they are. Also, the rescinding of TDY funding does not apply to soldiers taking basic combat training, advanced individual training, training for reclassification of military occupational specialties. The secretary of Defense, secretary of the Army, or commanders may approve temporary duty funding for educational activities that directly support national security operations. Requests for exceptions can be submitted to the deputy chief of staff, G-3/5/7, by phone at (703) 697-5030, or by email at usarmy.pentagon.hqda.mbx.aoc-team-chief-armyg3@mail.mil.
