Families at 70 active-duty and six Reserve installations would benefit from a commitment those installations made to make their lives easier. Among the improvements: elimination of initial child-care registration fees, extended-duty day care hours, better access to health care, improved housing and more assistance in matters such as continuing education and finding jobs for family members. The Army also announced plans to hire as many as 200 more mental health workers, and improve ties between military and civilian organizations, to help surviving families of soldiers who die in the line of duty. Representatives of the installations formally made the commitment during ceremonies held Dec. 7 in Alexandria, Va.
