Two Americans – a soldier and a civilian contractor, died in Kabul, Afghanistan, Oct. 19 when a man wearing an Afghan army uniform fired upon them. The Defense Department identified the slain as Sgt. Douglas J. Riney, 26, of Fairview, Ill., and Michael G. Sauro, 40, of McAlester, Okla. Riley was attached to the Fort Hood, Texas-based Support Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. Sauro worked at the Defense Ammunition Center at McAlester Army Ammunition Plant. National Public Radio reported that the attacker was dressed as an Afghan soldier, but did not specify as to whether the incident was a “so-called insider attack.”
