Sailors and officers attached to U.S. Naval Forces Central Command who are assigned to duty in Bahrain can again bring their families and children with them. In a June 28 announcement, Navy officials rescinded the policy that required family members to be located elsewhere, which had been in effect since July 2004 because of security concerns. The policy was relaxed somewhat late last year, when service members in Bahrain were allowed to bring spouses. The newest decision reopens the country to military children.
