Bill Would Allow Concurrent Receipt

A measure offered by Rep. James Marshall, D-Ga., would allow all disabled retirees to collect full disability compensation from the Department of Veterans Affairs as well as their entire military retirement pay, ending the long-standing ban on “concurrent receipt” of both. The bill is now pending before both the House Veterans’ Affairs and Armed Services committees. Presently, retirement pay is offset by the amount of VA disability pay, except for retirees with disability ratings of 50 percent or higher.
