Bill Would Help Vets Get Civilian Employment

The House Veterans Affairs economic opportunity subcommittee has presented HR-5220 to the full Committee on Veterans Affairs. The bill would help veterans transition into civilian jobs. The legislation, sponsored by Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite, R-Fla., would authorize the Secretary of Labor to launch a pilot project to select at least 10 military skills that have civilian job counterparts. The Labor Department then would coordinate with the states to match those skills with civilian job opportunities for veterans. Subcommittee chairman John Boozman, R-Ark., expects to see it passed.
