Marine Corps Capt. Jeff Kuss, 32, died June 2 when his F/A-18 Super Hornet crashed during a practice flight near Smyrna, Tenn. Kuss was a member of the Navy’s Blue Angels flight demonstration team. Coincidentally, an Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon from the Thunderbirds flight demonstration team also crashed the same day, during a practice run near Colorado Springs, Colo. The pilot, Maj. Alex Turner, ejected safely. He was treated at a local hospital and released. The Navy and Air Force will conduct investigations of the incidents.
