Blue to Green Program Misfires

Although the Air Force and Navy have been reducing

their ranks by tens of thousands, few of the individuals

affected are exchanging their blue uniforms for Army

green under the Blue to Green program. Although numbers

differ among the services, the results are underwhelming.

The Air Force and Navy, for example, report that 417

Airmen and Sailors have gone Army. The Army’s figures

show 271 enlisted members and 125 officers went green

last year. This compares with earlier expectations

reportedly as high as 3,500. In spite of the scanty

results, Army officials view the few hundred accessions

as better than no accessions. The Blue to Green program

is expected to continue.
