Board to Preen Junior Officer Ranks

Air Force lieutenants in overstaffed career fields with more than two years of extended active service but less than 15 years of total active federal service as of Aug. 31, 2008, have until Feb. 4 to complete paperwork that could very well determine whether or not they will be allowed to remain on active duty. The forms include such information as performance reports, decorations, and letters of recommendation for retention. Officers who want to stay in the Air Force can also provide any other materials they feel would make their case, according to an Air Force Personnel Center statement. A force-shaping board will review all retention recommendation forms when it convenes March 31 at the Air Force Personnel Center at Randolph AFB, Texas. Eligible officers who wish to leave the Air Force have until March 20, 2008, to apply for voluntary separation. The board will not consider officers in the intelligence, security forces, civil engineer, and public affairs fields for separation. More information is available at the personnel center’s Force Shaping Web Site, or by calling (800) 616-3775 (toll-free commercial), (210) 565-5000 (in the San Antonio, Texas, area), or 665-5000 (DSN). Overseas callers can dial a toll-free AT&T Direct Access Number from the countries they are in, then dial (800) 616-5000 and select options 1, 1, and 2. AT&T Direct access numbers can be obtained at http://ask.afpc.randolph.af.mil/contact/.
