The Navy has announced that E-6s in a war zone may have the requirement to pass the chief’s test before going before the board waived. To be eligible, active-duty E-6s must either have served in Iraq, Afghanistan or the Horn of Africa, or been en route to, or in training for deployment to one of the zones at least one day between Nov. 1, 2006, and Feb. 28, 2007. Eligible dates for reservists are between Dec. 1, 2006, and March 31, 2007. Eligible E6s who took the active-duty test in January or the reserve test in February have the option to cancel the results. To skip the test, the individual’s permanent command must request a waiver from the Navy Education and Training Command Personnel Development and Technology Center in Pensacola, Fla. Deadlines are April 15 for reservists and May 1 for active-duty Sailors.
