Paratroopers soon could have body armor that would fit their mission. The Army is close to providing guidance for wearing the latest Improved Outer Tactical Vest and the new T-11 parachute. Last month, two-dozen soldiers with the 82nd Airborne Division’s 3rd Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, tested the two pieces of gear together at Fort Bragg, N.C. The tests involved jumping from a twin-engine aircraft while bearing the approximate equipment weight, and jumping into a pool while wearing the armor and a parachute harness. Soldiers complained of some discomfort, but all completed the testing safely. The Army Test and Evaluation Command plans to assess test results and alter training regimens accordingly.
