Marine Corps Commandant James. T. Conway has issued his “intent” that every (active duty) Marine will get the chance to fight. “When they join our Corps, Marines expect to train, deploy and fight. That’s who we are; that’s what we do; and we must allow every Marine that opportunity,” he decreed Jan 19 in AlMar 002/07. He directed the Corps’ leadership to provide all Marines, first termers and career Marines alike, the chance to deploy to a combat zone. He told commanders to facilitate reassignment to rotational units of Marines who have not yet deployed to a combat zone, and to support any Marine’s request to deploy. The new policy stems from complaints Conway heard from Marines during recent town hall meetings that they weren’t able to deploy. In December, Conway said that about 66,000 of 175,000 Marines had not yet been to combat.
