Cyber Rules of Engagement Under Development

The Defense Department is finalizing the rules of engagement for cyberspace. When complete, the policy will set standards for organizational structures and command relationships throughout DoD’s more than 15,000 network enclaves and 7 million computers around the world. The Obama administration’s request of $37 billion for information technology for 2013 includes $3.4 billion for cyber security, and $182 million for cyber network defense, cryptographic systems, communications security, and other enhancements, Teresa M. Takai, the Pentagon’s chief information officer, told members of the House Armed Services Committee during a March 20 hearing. The Pentagon hopes to reap enhanced security and better efficiency with the plan.
