DFAS Issues Mid-Month Checks

As the government shutdown spurred by the political impasse in Washington entered its third week, Pentagon paymasters promised service members and civilian employers that their mid-October checks would be issued as scheduled. The Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) issued a statement Oct. 16, advising service members that they would receive "normal pay and allowances" will show up in their mid-month statements. Civilian employees will receive normal pay through Sept. 30. Payment for the week of Oct. 1-5 will depend upon each employee’s status – exempt, excepted from furlough, or furloughed – at the time. All civilian and military employees will be paid as normal dates they work as of Oct. 11.
