Early Outs For Some Army Lieutenants

The Army is offering early outs to certain active-component lieutenants who agree to join the National Guard. The Army National Guard Reform Initiative is available to competitive category lieutenants who will have 24 to 36 months of active duty when separated. Separations must occur between May 1 and Sept. 30, 2008. Officers deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan or Kuwait are not eligible, nor are those assigned to a lifecycle unit or a stop-loss unit. In addition, members of an Army Medical Department branch, the Chaplain Corps, the Judge Advocate General Corps, or lieutenants who are aviation officers with service obligations from flight school are not eligible. Applicants must have a confirmed assignment to a National Guard unit. Assistance is available from Reserve-component career counselors. Applications should be submitted to the chain of command by Nov. 30, and must arrive at Human Resources Command by Dec. 7.
