Elections Coming in Several States

Service members who are residents of Illinois, Florida, and Massachusetts are advised to submit absentee ballots in a timely manner for upcoming general elections in those states. The Illinois state primary election is scheduled for Feb. 2. Registered voters in Afghanistan, Iraq, at sea or other overseas locations who do not have access to the military postal system can e-mail or fax their ballots; stateside registered voters should submit their Federal Post Card Application to their local election offices by Jan. 15. Massachusetts will hold a special election on Jan. 19 to fill the seat of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, who died last year. And Florida’s 19th Congressional District, which includes parts of Broward and Palm Beach counties, will hold an election on Feb. 2 to fill the seat of Rep. Robert Wexler, who resigned. Deadlines for non-registered voters have already elapsed. To learn more about casting an absentee ballot, visit the Federal Voting Assistance Program Web site at www.fvap.gov.
