F-35 Makes First Carrier Landing

A carrier variant of the F-35C Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter made the first-ever arrested landing on the deck of an aircraft carrier Nov. 3. The plane, flown by test pilot Cmdr. Tony Wilson, landed on the deck of the carrier Nimitz shortly after noon. The flight was part of the initial developmental-testing phase for the plane, which was expected to last two weeks. The Navy is collecting environmental data, to determine how the plane is being integrated with flight-deck operations. Once integrated into the fleet, the F-35C will complement the inventory of F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, EA-18G Growler, E-2D Hawkeye, MH-60R/S helicopters and Carrier Onboard Delivery (COD) aircraft. Full integration should be complete by 2025.
