Former Soldier Earns Olympic Bronze

Steven Holcomb, a former soldier, teamed with civilian Steve Langton to win the bronze medal in two-man bobsled at the XXII Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, Feb. 18. Their achievement marks the first time a U.S. team earned an Olympic medal in the event in 62 years. Fellow soldiers and Olympic teammates Capt. Chris Fogt and Sgt. Nick Cunningham were on hand at the finish line to greet Holcomb and Langton, who finished a mere .03 seconds ahead of the fourth-place team. “We knew we had to bring everything we had if we wanted to bring home a medal. There was a lot of pressure,” Holcomb said afterward. While in uniform, Holcomb was a member of the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program.
