Health-Care Rules Relaxed for Hawaii Residents

Although Hurricane Lane spared Hawaii from the most ferocious winds it bore, the storm created enough havoc to lead the Defense Health Agency to relax rules for beneficiaries who need health care in its aftermath. The agency announced on Aug. 27 that all beneficiaries in Lane’s path could visit a doctor at any location, without a referral from their primary care physician. The change would enable evacuees to see doctors in the areas where they have relocated, rather than wait until they are clear to return to their residences.
