Marine Honored for Saving Comrade’s Life

The American Heart Association has honored a Marine non-commissioned officer for saving the life of a subordinate who was in cardiac arrest. Sgt. Michael Joseph, assigned Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 367 at Marine Corps Base Hawaii, came to the aid of a lance corporal on Feb. 17 after he found the junior Marine lying on the pavement outside the base movie theater. Joseph immediately called 911 and began administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to the stricken Marine. Emergency technicians arrived in time to take over and save the young Marine’s life. For his actions, the American Heart Association presented Joseph with its Emergency Cardiovascular Care Heart Saver Hero Award during a March 13 ceremony at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. “To me, it’s just what Marines do,” Joseph said after the ceremony.
